WDB Members

 

The NWPA Workforce Development Board (WDB) is comprised of members representing business, labor, education, social services, and government agencies throughout Northwest Pennsylvania. Working in cooperation with chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, planning commissions, and others, the Board focuses its development activities on key industry segments that include electronics manufacturing, food processing, construction, health care, metal fabrication, plastics, technology, lumber and hardwoods, oil and gas, transportation, and mining. The Board also administers federal and state funds for programs targeted to adults, dislocated workers, and young people through five PA CareerLink® offices in Erie, Crawford, Clarion, Oil Region (Venango), and Warren

Previously, Dr. Lisa Millers has been a college administrator (Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs) at a local 2-year campus of a university system. She was also an assistant professor at the same institution for 12 years in healthcare. She has worked in the healthcare field in Erie and Meadville since 1994 as a physical therapist.

 

Dr. Miller is now a business strategist and business owner helping Erie area businesses with strategic planning and organization. She has extensive experience with the labor and industry needs of the area and how education plays into filling those needs. She also has prior experience with displaced workers, educational program development, institutional accreditation and strategic planning. All of these areas of experience will combine to inform her work on the board and committees.

 

Dr. Miller holds a PhD in Organizational Leadership and Learning, a Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT), a Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MPT), and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, all from Gannon University. She has been a Licensed Physical Therapist since 1994.

 

Dr. Miller has spent her life working in and studying in the Erie area and wants the NWPA area to thrive. She knows the history of the area as well as its resources and challenges. Her experience as a healthcare provider, college educator, college administrator and business owner all inform her image of how NWPA functions and what it needs to continue forward momentum. Dr. Miller brings to the board is a broad view of both the needs of the people of the area and the procedural demands of a system as integrated as the Workforce Development Board and its public workforce system. She brings the ability to navigate a complex structure in the pursuit of lasting results for the people that it impacts.

 

Besides being a business owner, Dr. Miller also continues to practice as a physical therapist in Erie, PA. She really enjoys working with patients and is happy that she is able to juggle that with starting a strategy business as well. She also enjoys travelling down south to see her family and enjoys biking, running and fishing with her fiancee.
